NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Integrated Design and Media Program
Fall 2023
7 week course: October 25th to December 15th 2023
Instructor
Elizabeth Henaff
Industry Partner
This class was conducted as a partnership with New Lab, a climate and deep tech venture platform with a place-based approach located in the Brooklyn Navy Yards. Sara Nejad, NYU IDM alum and director of New Lab’s molecular biology prototyping facilities, hosted student projects in their lab space. Final presentations were hosted at New Lab for their community and the public.
Summary
In this class students will learn hands-on lab technique to grow mushroom bricks. Students will learn a standard protocol in the first two weeks, then design their own brick mold with a new shape, designed to fit together in a novel way. They will then grow several units of this brick and build a prototype structure with it. This course is offered in collaboration with New Lab, and we will use their laboratory facilities for the mushroom culture. Students will produce a 3D model design and material study for their final project.
