Art at the Edge of Nature

Art has been considered as a creative process specifically reserved for and addressed by humans. Now a days, after the emergence of post-humanisms we are facing a perspective that questions the role of the artists in relation to more-than-human entities such as living micro-organisms, plants, animals, external- autonomous phenomena... but also artificial intelligences and other technologies.

Building on the concept of ‘more-than-human’ agency in artistic creation, bioart emerged as a pivotal space for unconventional and boundary- pushing creative practices developed beyond traditional settings, creating art in the edge of what we called Nature. These alternative arenas serve as opportunities to critically examine global dynamics and pressing challenges, usually adopting a non-anthropocentric perspective to explore issues predominantly caused by human activity.

‘Art at the edge of nature’ conversation is a discussion around notions and concepts of bioart that must be, extended to address new confrontations at the intersection of art, science and technology.
