Green Team Garden Slope Project

What better way to celebrate Earth Month than by getting your hands in the dirt with our friends from the Green Team?

Rain or shine throughout the eight-month program, Green Team cohort members are invested in seeing what differences in environment can do for community and team building.

From being just a plan eight weeks ago to a three-tiered terraced landscape and an adjacent area cleared for shrubbery, the Aerobiome Team was blown away by the tremendous progress the Green Team has made on their design for the Garden Slope at Fort Greene Park.

The Garden Slope is an in-park green infrastructure project designed by the Green Team cohort members, with guidance from team educators, NYC Parks Staff, and members of the Green Team Advisory Committee. For this year’s project, the team tackled several challenges: topography, flooding, soil erosion, soil testing, composting, and the discreet integration of back-of-house operations. With a little more than two months to go, we can’t wait to see their progress!

If you are interested in volunteering with the Green Team or any of the gardening opportunities at Fort Greene Park, check out the Fort Greene Park Conservancy Volunteer page for more information.

The terraced design with erosion control blankets and retaining walls will assist in preventing future flooding along the western path of the park.
