On April 25th, our team from the Laboratory of Living Interfaces took part in the Tandon Excellence Exhibit Day 2025, an annual showcase of innovative research projects at NYU Tandon. We presented our concept for a LAMP-PCR-based biosensor designed to detect environmental contaminants, specifically targeting heavy metals, this research have been inspired by longtime investigation of the Gowanus Canal by our laboratory. Our exhibit included a scientific poster, an interactive lab-inspired game called Fishing for Microbes, and a hands-on cabbage-based experiment that simulated heavy metal detection through color change. The experience offered the public a playful yet scientifically grounded way to engage with molecular detection technologies.
