More-than-human Mapping: Microbial Heritage in Post-industrial Landscapes
Spatial Humanities 2024 focuses on the role of geospatial technologies, like Geographic Information Systems (GIS), in advancing humanities research, with the goal to showcase how these technologies, approaches, and methods contribute to expanding knowledge both within and beyond the field of digital humanities.
Caroline Chou presented a poster featuring a collection of maps that narrates this post-industrial landscapes’ microbial heritage and ongoing gentrification. This deep mapping endeavor seeks to render the ubiquitous but invisible life in this environment visible, serving as a road map to include microbes in the conversation of environmental justice and inclusive sustainable urban development.
